Rheum rhabarbarum. Large, green-red stalks are perfect for stews, pies, jams, sauces, and lemonades. Very hardy (zone 3) and prolific, and increases in size every year. A herbaceous perennial plant with strong stalks. Due to size (3-4 ft tall and 3 ft wide), plant in a back corner of the garden. The plants prefer full sun to part shade, but are not particular about soil type (although will benefit from occasional addition of compost and mulch).
