NB Food Forest Tours
In 2024, we organized and coordinated the first NB Food Forest Tour. We're in the process of organizing the 2025 iteration, with many new hosting sites! You can't register for the 2025 one just yet, but do check out the highlights from the 2024 tour:
We had nine participating properties - in Fredericton, Saint John, Hampton, Quispamsis, Kingston Peninsula, and Moncton. The properties were all different - some were public, some private, small and large, some were established food forests planted in the 80s and others were only planted 2 years prior. The tour was spread across multiple days, so that people could visit as many locations as they wanted to, without time pressure.
The different sites showcased different approaches to growing food in NB, with a host of permaculture-friendly techniques - from fruit tree guilds to hugelculture beds, swales for capturing rainwater, and four-season greenhouses. Thanks to the diversity of the sites, the tours offered something for everyone - from experienced gardeners to curious folks just looking to start out.
This event was a fantastic way to see first-hand the diversity of food we can grow in NB, connect with like-minded gardeners, get inspired, learn about new plants and techniques, and buy seeds, plants, or products from the various hosts.
