Pruning is a way to control the growth of your trees and shrubs, maintain the health of your trees, and increase fruit production. The workshop will include:
- a quick tutorial on sharpening pruners / loppers
- the theory behind why and how to prune
- hands-on pruning of fruit trees and berry bushes.
We will learn to prune fruit trees (plums, apples, pears, cherries) and berry bushes (currants, blueberries, haskaps, gooseberries, bush cherries) and hazels. Dress for the weather (including boots), and bring gloves, and loppers / pruners if you have them. Fun thing - you'll get to take some clippings home with you to propagate for free!
Workshop is 2.5 h long. Location / date information:
1) Kingston Peninsula - Saturday, March 28, 2026, 10-12:30 at Sima's Roots & Fruits (~10 mins from Gondola Pt Ferry). Purchase a ticket here!

Very informative. We got to see a few different trees and shrubs and how to best prune them. Sima also showed us how to sharpen pruning shears properly.
