Allium cepa var. aggregatum. Also known as potato onions. Finally, no need to fiddle with onion seeds. These onions are grown like garlic - you plant a single bulb, and as they grow, they multiply into a clump of individual bulbs. In the fall you get multiple bulbs from the original one. Bulbs can be planted either in the fall or in the spring, or can just be left in the ground undisturbed until you need some onions! They keep excellently over the winter, hanging in a mesh bag in a dry, cool spot in the house. Save a few bulbs for next year's planting, and eat the rest. A fantastic mild onion that can be used raw in salads, or in your cooking.
In addition to the multiplied bulbs themselves, you get the benefit of harvesting green bunching onions for early spring and summer use. Do keep in mind that the plant needs some of those green leaves to grow the bulbs - harvest accordingly if you want to have a healthy harvest of bulbs in the fall.
Price is per single bulb (size variation shown in photos).
