Lovage

Levisticum officinale. A herbaceous, perennial herb, hardy to zone 3. Grows to a height of 6-8 ft, but dies back every fall. Leaves have a strong celery taste, and the flowers attract a variety of pollinators. Harvest the leaves in early summer and freeze for later use, since they can become bitter once the plant flowers.

Can be grown in full sun or partial shade, but would prefer a deeply cultivated bed due to the large taproot. Consider planting in the back of the herb garden, or combine together with other perennial vegetables, like rhubarb and asparagus.
