Hablitzia (Caucasian spinach)

Hablitzia tamnoides. An perennial salad / cooking green. A herbaceous vining plant that is hardy to zone 3. Harvest leaves for salads (similar to lettuce) or for cooking (like spinach). Young shoots can be eaten like thin asparagus. The plant prefers full sun or partial shade, and can be grown under fruit trees. If provided with a vertical trellis to climb, it will reach 10 ft in one season. Without climbing support, it will sprawl - convenient if you're looking for a perennial living mulch plant!
