We enjoyed the beautiful drive out to see Sima's gardens. It was a family friendly tour with lots of great information sharing, conversations, and wonderful samples from the garden! I appreciated hearing which approaches have been kept, which were swapped, and the why behind it all. If you're looking to learn from the lived experience of local growers, these tours are an invaluable resource. Looking forward to attending future events!
Mike’s garden in Uptown Saint John is an eye-opener. For anyone who thinks they don’t have enough space for a food forest, his small, sloped lot is absolutely packed with delicious food (which he invited us to sample), and he offered a lot of useful insights on how to maximize the yield in a small space. We also purchased several small plants from Mike and are excited to expand our own little food forest. I recommend wearing sturdy footwear to enjoy all the nooks and crannies, but there's lots to be seen from the more even walkways too.
My partner and I were lucky enough to visit Joe and Franco’s food forest near Fredericton – their property is a must-see for anyone interested in growing their own food. Their expansive property is filled with a wide variety of delicious fruit plants, including some new varieties they’ve developed themselves. The hosts were generous with their knowledge and fruit, answering a wide variety of questions and inviting us to sample from any plants that were in season. Highly recommend!
Great tour of how a food forest can work! I love how approachable the tours are :)
