Excellent for tough sites, very resilient, can handle just about any soil type. Requires a pollenizer (Marge) for maximum production. This is a smaller variety, growing to no more than 6-10 ft, depending on the conditions. Unlike many other black elderberries, it does not sucker, which reduces maintenance needs. Produces enormous clusters of flowers that become small berries. Great choice for tough sites, and a fantastic choice for a showy specimen that will keep your elderflower syrup bottles full. The berries ripen earlier than the variety Marge and the harvest window is tighter - convenient if you're looking to pick as much as possible all at once.
Sambucus nigra x S. canadenis. A cross between the native American elderberry and the highly-nutritious European elderberries. These trees are a fantastic addition to the pantry - from making elderberry flower syrup to making jam and syrup from the berries. The berries are highly nutritious, with high antioxidant content. And to round it off, elderberries also make beautiful garden specimens, with their huge, creamy white flowers, lacy leaves, and large bunches of dark berries.
