Common milkweed

Asclepias syriaca. A well-known pollinator attractant, and a much-needed food for monarch butterfly caterpillars. Hardy to zone 3, a native perennial species. Grows into a lush herbaceous bush, 3-5 ft tall and wide. The stalks die back every winter. Flowers are beautiful pink to white, sweetly scented, in large, drooping clusters. The plant spreads through seeds and by roots that grow horizontally and produce new plants near the mother plant, so plant it in an area where its spread will be welcome!
